Proposal:

Creation of All-Female Rangers of the Northern Territory

A Blueprint for Sustainable Conservation, Gender Empowerment, and Violence Prevention

The Northern Territory (NT) of Australia is home to some of the world’s most unique ecosystems, yet it also faces pressing challenges—wildlife poaching, environmental degradation, and a high incidence of violence against women and children.

The All-Female Rangers of the NT program presents a unique, holistic solution to address these urgent issues. It not only aims to protect NT’s endangered species and ecosystems but also serves as a powerful tool in the fight against gender-based violence, family violence, and crimes against women and children.

Inspired by the success of the Akashinga Rangers in Zimbabwe, this initiative will deploy a dedicated team of female rangers to serve as protectors of both the land and the people.

In doing so, it will create a safer environment for women and children, while empowering women from local and Indigenous communities to take on leadership roles in conservation and law enforcement.

By leveraging the combined strengths of conservation and social justice, this program will help to reduce crime and violence while building stronger, more resilient communities across the Northern Territory.

This proposal is not just a conservation initiative—it’s a crucial step toward making the Northern Territory a safer, more equitable place for all its citizens.
